It's mind-boggling isn't it? Also sea-traffic: https://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live-shipping-map-english-channel
Yes, It's both frightening (that the system is more or less run by humans, who make mistakes) and reassuring (that there are extremely few accidents) at the same time.
On my walks, I often look skyward and amazed as to how many planes are in the sky. Some look like they're gonna have a near miss!!!
A familiar sight I suppose living not too far from London's city airport.

crikey - i hadn't thought about shipping
It's almost unbelievable isn't it, both air and sea traffic world-wide.
from a web site
"in the past year there were an average of 9,728 planes — carrying 1,270,406 people — in the sky at any given time."
No. But I'm amazed that sometime recently it was decided my place would be under a flight path.
Yes, OG. We got very few planes flying over us (something to do with Fylingdales early warning station to the North of us was the rumour) until recently. Now the sky is filled with con trails.

I must admit that planes interest me

I'm one of those that like to go to the viewing lounge at airports to have a look at the aircraft on the ground ; while waiting to board my flight
It's amazing that any of those dinghies, rafts etc of people fleeing from France amange to find a gap to slip through between all those ships.

The plane one does look scary but maybe they are at different heights, and it would be interesting to see it drawn to scale so the planes appear as dots rather than being the size of London on the map.

I remember my first trip to the USA , on holiday .

After checking we went to the viewing lounge to see if we could see the Airtours plane that we were flying on .

I couldn't see it , until i peered around the corner .

There it was a ' little ' two engined plane

I remember thinking or saying to her indoors - '' are we crossing the pond in a 2 engined plane !! ?''

lol

ff //The plane one does look scary but maybe they are at different heights, //

I should think so :-)
A pub friend of mine is a Club flyer. On quiet nights, we often watch the flightpaths on a flight tracker on his tablet. I know, but it's still better than watching TV ;o)

Anyway, if you could see the vertical separation, it doesn't look half as scary.
How very dull of you, TB.

(I actually do this too ;-) Gliders are particularly interesting with their short range and multiple twists and turns). You can see helicopters going out to oil/gas rigs too.
Zacs, sometimes it's so quiet in the pub ;o)

Recently, another member of the local club has taken off in a regular 4-seater to fly to Oshkosh, Minnesota for the big international airshow.

Being a small plane, it has to be done in short hops. Scotland - Iceland- Greenland- Canada - Vermont - Oshkosh.

It amused me when he said he had, by law, to pick up rifles in Iceland for the Greenland stop. Apparently the local polar bears don't take kindly to tourists.

Anyway, we followed him all the way ......... from the pub :o)
Wow, that sounds like some trip.
Excuse me, Bazzers, but I thought Zacs might be interested in this...
