If you join the new Answerbankers Facebook page, can your friends see? Can they see any posts that you write or comment on?

I don't want anyone on my friends list knowing about AB.

Rocky, is your FB name Rockyracoon too?
Question Author
No. Though I do have a RR profile on FB.

Create another profile for the FB page. I've got three FB profiles.
Question Author
Yep, I know. It's just a lot of hassle switching between 2 profiles, so I tend not to use the RR one very much.
What is the point of an Answerbank facebook page?

If it's for advertising purposes, why choose facebook and not other media outlets?
FaceBook is free and has a huge market. Why not use FB?
Hazi, good question. Facebook enable us to target people interested in online chat rooms, quizzes and current affairs, for example - just some of the things we have to offer here on AB.

Our strategy, so to speak, is to attract new member to the website, right here. If they like what they see on the group, perhaps they'll like what they see on here too. I hope that makes sense :-)
Why do people who don't use Facebook feel the need to post on a thread about Facebook?

You can join Facebook in a false name and fill in false details.
Just to highlight, there really is no pressure for our AB members to move over to Facebook. If you'd like to support the group, that is wonderful, but the Facebook Group will hopefully serve to grow our community on here.
Facebook may attract more users. But will increasing facebookers add to the quality of the site? Facebook users tend to be self-obsessed people who seem to think the minutae of their mundane existence should be shared by everyone else. Maybe I am wrong but I thought the purpose this site was to answer questions and promote meaningful discussions, and we are already bombarded with folks moaning about their cirumstances, using the site as a forum to get sympathy and attention and going on about the wine aisle at Lidl- surely we don't want to encourage that?

Hazi, let's try not to generalise all Facebook users here. The purpose of AB is to answer questions and promote meaningful discussions, that focus hasn't changed.
People who don't use Facebook or Twitter are like vegans, ummmm
Well that has given us Face Bookers our character Hazi, quite a generalisation there.

Ye Gods! There's always one.
Okay, thanks for replying, it's your call in any case. But it does seem a shame go for quantity rather than quality.

The whole concept of Facebook is built up on 'likes', fake friends, attention-seeking and self-promotion. I would have thought it is the last place to look for people with experience of life and interesting input.
Sigh.
That's a good way of putting it, Talbot.
Question Author
I wouldn't bother, Mamy
