Zac - as you are in a compassionate mood today, a wee FAO Sorry to that lady you went after re her grammar the other night would go down well - you were a tad harsh on her - I can't remember who it was but I am sure someone (like gness) remembers....
I always respect you opinion DT but there's a world of difference between harsh criticism and downright offence. So I'm afraid I can accept your hint of 'pot / kettle'.
I have no issue of calling the kettle black, Zac; however, I do largely apologise if I have over accepted the mark with folk - we all make errors in the heat of the moment. It was just as suggestion to mend fences and not an overt criticism, so please accept it as that.
I had rather a few too many Timmy Taylor's Landlord last night DT. My local pub has been refurbed and it was a bit of a do. I would really like a pint with you some time. Just not right now. :-))
Jno, it was a very offensive post which upset me ( and some others) quite a lot and I'm a big blunt Yorkshireman who takes some upsetting. Your well off out of it.
Hope your pub hasn't suffered, Zac; sometimes these refurbs can be awful.
There have been threats about mine....the food has improved enormously and that's fine....there are one or two little changes I would make but they need to keep the essence of a village coaching inn. More speciality beers would be nice - we have a lovely rich local beer called Goshen and I wish they would have more of that on. (It's probably too "northern" as a beer for tastes down here, even though it's brewed on a local ex farm) http://www.hogswood.com/ales.html
No the pub hasn't suffered DT. It's had an extension into the beer garden and to the kitchen but the character has actually been enhanced. There's a new chef and he did free chilli and curry last night which were both superb.
Ours has done that, gness; the issue is that the Cornish don't drink much when it comes to dark beers and stouts (thread above) and even a small barrel can go off, never mind the faff in keeping the lines clean to provide a small quantity. It's not the same as a good well-kept hand drawn pint but better than nothing! (And it's far, far better than a can).
Pouring Guinness on a vibrating plate! How bizarre. When I worked behind a bar I could draw a shamrock in the top. I sometimes drew other things. Ooh I'm a right little devil, me.
Pouring Guinness on a vibrating plate could prove interesting and brighten up a slow night.......watching Guinness vibrate on a metal plate is a mortal sin.
I know Zacs.....elongate the middle leaf....I've been served by cheeky barmen. x
