(Gawd, I sound like my aunts; they spent November arguing about who would host the rest of us that year )

Anything unusual ? Happy family gathering ? Unhappy family gathering? Playing host to waifs and strays; my ex used to invite complete strangers who she'd met once and had discovered they'd be alone on Christmas Day; it made for a happy gathering of foreigners and oddballs , among others!

After our disastrous escapade in Guernsey last year we have given in and are going to daughters again this year. It will be different as we have always previously gone in motorhome and plugged in to their electric and slept in the garden. We sold motorhome earlier this year so will have to sleep in the house, with 5 grandchildren, 3 dogs an 2 cats. Hope we survive!!
I'm usually woken up at about 4am by the children. Presents from Father Christmas in our bedroom, then main presents downstairs. My sister and i will probably have about 3 or 4 homecare calls each (finding out now who wants what) and go over to my mum and stepdad's for lunch. My sister goes too and her children, plus all the dogs.
I have, in the past, invited over two homeless people and one client for Christmas lunch, who would otherwise have been alone. Some don't mind being on their own, but some do.
What are your plans, Fred?
Young ChillDoubt will be around for tea and stay the night on Xmas Day, then it's work on Boxing Day.
Op Theatre is 24/7, unfortunately.
Going back to the Falklands...... :(
Personally I would spend Xmas at the North Pole if I could !

Slapshot, at least the days will be long and the weather....don't know about the weather. And all those penguins for company.

Pixie, my 25 year-old daughter is deporting me and herself to Madeira. She loves her mother and her brother, likes his wife, but can't stand his wife's parents (neither can her mother). But they have to be invited. Her mother can't escape, but we can, so we shall. Can't help but think there is a cheaper solution (you can guess which of daughter and dad is paying) but it looks a bit warmer than here, and it should be enjoyable. We will be the two youngest there , I think; the place attracts old people at that time of year. My daughter says she is looking forward to leading the singing on the old people's coach excursions; she may get a few tips !

working christmas eve till 2300hrs

i have yet to receive an invite to the big family dinner at my sister's house on christmas day

excelsior, maybe they just assume that you will be going as you are family and don't need to be invited?
older sprog is home from australia yay.
That sounds an ideal solution, then, Fred (if expensive).
excel, i agree with cloverjo. Are they not just assuming that you'll be there?
