It would not surprise me if May had offered Boris the Foreign Office and leader of Brexit negotiations. A poisoned chalice indeed.
^That was to bodeker.

She has pledged to appoint a 'Cabinet Minister for Brexit'
Jackdaw, what a wicked thought. ;o)

I won't speculate on the whys and what fors.

Oh I wish you would
Sorry Naomi what does ^ mean :)
Is it a secret ?
bodeker, it means I didn't know what you meant when you said "the leave mob have backtracked shamelessly they don't even bother to hide the fact that they said things that they could not deliver".
Is what a secret?
Naomi , well they have haven't they? I think so.
bodeker, what did you expect them to deliver?
Naomi, Well one of the main things was immigration, now it is being said that maybe we won't be able to stop people coming in , I am not talking about people who want to work, but people who are coming here to get benefits, we are surrounded by them where I live so that was a big thing for me. Plus we cannot get rid of criminals from abroad because the EU won't let us.
not a surprise: as many have been pointing out for days, the next PM is going to have a mess on his/her hands when trying to implement Brexit, and Boris likes people to imagine he's a clown but doesn't want them to realise he's incompetent. I presume he still hopes to take over after the mess is sorted - but that may take a while and he may have missed his chance now.
Looks like we're on the path which started with us being controlled by EU overlords, whom some painted as Sauron type figures, to having no leaders!

Yipeeeee! we're all free to do whatever we want. I feel SO liberated i might just take me string vest off.
bodeker, the Brexiters didn't promise anything. They weren't in a position to promise anything - or to deliver anything. They only encouraged the electorate to vote to leave the EU in order to free the country from its rules and regulations. Only governments can make promises and deliver on them - and the Brexit camp is not the government.
I don't think he really expected the leave vote to win. He didn't look particularly jubilant the day after.

He doesn't want to be the PM that instigates brexit and has to make it work. More likely wanted to challenge Cameron for the leadership after Remain had narrowly won.
What certainly *is* true is that while we are waiting for the government to take back control, we can only look forward to one of our main two parties destroying itself, and the other squabbling in back-rooms over leadership and petty internal affairs. Power to the people this ain't.

Or, at least, not yet.
Looks like The Cons may have found themselves in the same position as Labour. A party no one wants to lead, leaving the backroom boys a chance of power. Who do you think the Cons version of Corbyn is?
Good grief Jim! Give it a chance.
That's what the "not yet" was for. But It's still embarrassing to see what's going on particularly with the Labour party at the moment, and surely we have to wonder what the future of parliament holds if the main alternative to the Conservative Party implodes.

I wonder if it's also time to revisit the question of electoral reform, while we're at it?
