wanting to make a coleslaw but looking for that extra magic ingredient. i use pre prepared coleslaw, add red onion, raisins and mayonnaise. any other ideas?

grate in a granny smith apple - it adds some sweetness & tang.

I always add a dash of lemon juice too.

bits of chopped up orange, clemantine, grapes or mango. some curry powder mixed into the mayo if you're going to add sultanas, makes it taste a bit like coronation chicken dressing.

I make a simple coleslaw with finely sliced white cabbage, grated carrot and finely chopped onion. Adjust proportions to taste. I use about one quarter the volume of the cabbage for the onion and carrot. Mix in mayonnaise (Hellman's). I add about a teaspoonful of English mustard and fresh ground black pepper. Serve chilled. This always goes down a treat for my family. Cheers, Andy

Don't add Red Cabbage to your coleslaw,not unless you want a lilac coleslaw!

Home made coleslaw is sooo much better - follow ACB's recipe, it's lovely, just how I make mine.
