Orlistat

My Gp [reluctantly] has presribed Orlistat capsules 120mg X 3 daily to help me loose weight I took the prescription to my local Boots and went to collect -not ready- went back a few days later and they told me that they have not had a supply in for over 4 months. Can anyone tell me are they still on the market pls ?Also has anyone tried them ?

they are still on the market but there are production problems - I have just got mine filled - phone round the smaller chemists they seem to get supplies xx
Dee, not to be difficult or judgemental, but all orlistat does is makes in impossible for you to eat much fat as it gives you the thundering runs (they call it an "aversive effect") You might want to try just starting on a lower fat diet while you are waiting to get the tablets?
If you pay for your prescriptions dont bother - I had them and lost not an ounce - mind you I dont eat unhealthy really I'm just bone idle
all that happens with orlistat is that if you eat fat while on them, you get terrible runs - friend of mine tried it and literally had to dispose of several pairs of underwear as a result and complained of extreme stomach cramps. She was terrified of eating out and ended up not taking the tablets if we were going out - therefore defeating the object. The reason people lose weight on orlistat is that they're so terrified of the side effects that they won't eat fat, so best thing to do is just don't eat fat (Rosemary Connelly is a great low fat diet - she created it when she had gallstones and couldn't tolerate fatty foods). Just wanted to warn you about the dangers of orlistat....

thanks for the replies all taken on board GP said they may work and may not, if you dont loose anything dont ask for anymore ! dont think I will bother now dont fancy coping with the runs and dont have the will power to go to Slimming world or WW for me it will be a waste of money.
Next time I go to GP [dont go very often] I will return the prescription and see what he says.
I have come to the conclusion that when you get older you are either big or scrawney depending on the genes unfortunately my nan & mum were exactly the same size as I am now.
I'm with you there, Dee Sa - my family run to fat and so have I, though our diets and amounts of exercise greatly differ.

I suppose I could get slimmer by exercising and dieting three times as hard as someone who's got slimmer genes - but is it actually worth that much effort? I'm never going to be Kate Moss.
