I am obese BMI 42 type 2 diabetic. My doctor wants me to take Orlistat. He gave me a prescription. I cant get it anywhere they say there is a supply issue and wont be available for another month. I think this is terrible that one manufacturer can hold a country to ransom. Does anybody know where I can get it I thought about buying it on line but dont want to risk it.

There has been a manufacturing problem with both the branded 'Xenical' 120mg and generic orlistat 120mg capsules since the beginning of this year. Supplies were first expected in February, then pushed back to March, then again to April and now again to May.
If you cannot wait for the supply chain to be reistablished, it is possible to buy 'Alli' capsules (orlistat 60mg) from your local pharmacy. They are however expensive to buy.
If it was me, I would wait for the manufacturers delay to end and get your prescription dispensed then.
I think there is something more sinister going on than production problems. Surely they should have solved this in the four months they've had. My pharmacist has said it could still be months. A distinct lack of information here.
Not to nag but hopefully to help, orlistat iirc renders fat indigestible which is why you can get the horrendous runs if you eat too much fat while taking it. While waiting for the prescription, could you start a low fat diet?
