Need to shift a few stone and it's hard work doing so due to lifestyle and love of food.

Doc has today prescribed me Orlistat, one of the pills that prevents the absorbstion of fat in the body.

Im fully aware of the dodgy side effects but just how bad are they ? Obviously if i eat a fried egg and bacon sarnie, im going to have to be near a toilet for a while. But what about stuff like semi skimmed milk, bread, spuds, pasta etc etc

Are there any useful websites to go on ? I really want to do this but i can't live on chicken breast and veg for the rest of my life.

Any help much appreciated

I've been on alli which are the ones you can get over the counter, they are 60mg rather than the 80mg you get from the doctor. They work really well, lost half a stone in two weeks. They are not too bad, I love pasta and ate quite a bit of it while taking th tablets and the effects were hardly anything. The only thing is, they don't react straight away takes a few hours ( with me anyway) after eating, good luck xx
When I was taking them I was told not to eat anything which contains over 4% fat so check all packaging. Bread, spuds, and pasta should be fine.

This gives you some information.

Surely the whole point of it is to allow you to eat unhealthily still. Otherwise why cough up the cost ? Greasy fry-ups, here we come. Rubber pants too.
Why can't you live on meat and vegetables?

It is the sugars and carbs that have made you fat and will ensure you stay fat.

I lost 3 stone in 3 months eating a hearty diet (and dropped my cholesterol level significantly too); fry up of 2 eggs and bacon in the morning, enormous cold meat & salad lunch and meat and veg for dinner.
Swapped vodka and slimline for beer.

Now I add just a small amount of potato, rice or pasta at dinner and the occasional sarni or cracker and my weight has remained stable.

Forget these chemicals that pervert how your intestines are supposed to process fat - cut out the foods that in a modern diet are making people ill or dead: sugars, carbs and the processed foods that are full of them.

And good luck.

Thanks everyone...keep the advice and suggestions coming

Zeuhl....ive tried the diets, low carbs, bah blah and they're fine for a week or two. Then, when i really can't be arsed to cook one weekend, i head for the local Indian and consume a chicken dhansak !!! I just don't have the motivation.

Ironic that this weight gain has been caused by giving up smoking 7 years ago....something that needed an immense amount of will power and motivation !!!!!
It is difficult Hammerman.

I have to admit, nearly all my delicious salads, meat and veg dinners and morning fry-ups were prepared by Mrs Zeuhl!

Do you have a picture of yourself all young and slim? And a more recent one?
Stick them on the wall - preferably near the fridge or the door out to the take-away.
Good Luck Hammerman - hopefully this will just kickstart your weightloss then you will be able to stop taking any pills. Then maybe the weightloss will be all the motivation you need as when it comes down to it eating less and moving more really does work. Once you start seeing results and get on your way to your target weight you will realise you don't need to live on chicken breast and veg for the rest of your life - you are allowed to have things you enjoy, everything in moderation. Well done - maybe you should post regular updates on here and we can all try and motivate you? Remember if you cheat you are only cheating yourself :-)
i don't really understand the concept all that well. If you can stick to a low fat diet because you are on the pills, why can't you jut stick to a low fat diet anyway?
Try having a look on the alli website www.alli.co.uk where there are recipes and a forum as the alli is the over th counter version of the orlistat at half the strength
The dodgy side effects can be very bad so just be aware. I was put on Orlistat by my doctor and tried to stick to the 4% fat limit religiously but it seemed that no matter what I eat, it came straight out again. It was not just the fact that I needed to be near the toilet, I actually spent 6 hours in there one day, having nothing to eat at all, yet still needing to go. I stopped eating anything at all until I was pursuaded by my husband to stop taking the pills. I found that I have lost more weight just be eating sensibly than by taking Orlistat as they only thing that did was massively dehydrate me
Dont go there darlin try a good diet club like slimmers world its simple and you will loose weight how it went on a pound at a time that way it stays off
