Hi again, everyone. I thought I'd start another post, to let you all know what's been happening. This morning, my lovely old cat Cassie (she's almost 11) came crawling through the cat flap, bleeding profusely from her back & front right legs. I took her straight to the vet and she said she'd been very badly beaten up by another cat. I suspect it was the same one who ultimately caused Monty's death. Poor Cass has been at the vet's all day, but is now home, still battered and sore. I saw the damn cat again this afternonn, when it tried to get in through the cat flap to Cleo, who was trying to get out at the time. I'm not letting the girls out at all until I can trap that cat and get rid of it. The other thing is that the vet has a little black kitten in, who has had to have a leg amputated after a run in with a car. She's only about 5 or 6 weeks old and my vet is looking for a home for her. I've (foolishly?) said I'll have her, but not till tomorrow evening, so Cass can have some time to settle back home after today. Oh, boy, why me, Lord????

Thats a lovely thing to do giving the poor little mite a home - well done.

I am a big softie too and hope Cass has a speedy recovery x

What can I call her, though? "Lucky" springs to mind, but all my girls (apart from Gavin, poor thing, getting saddled with a name like that by my son!!) have "posh" names - Andromeda, Cassiopaeia and Cleopatra (even wee Monty was actually Montgomery). I thought about Minerva or Freya or Persephone (although that would be shortened to Percy, not exactly appropriate for a young lady!). What do you all think?
Lucianna...=lucky
Things happen for a reason and this poor little love will need lots of care and cuddles. Bless it it hasn't had the best start in life. If you have a lot of love to give, what better than finding something to give it to. It will be a lucky puss.
It can't replace Monty of course, but you will love it for its own little character.

Ps i love the rainbow bridge and think it is a lovely way to explain to a child.

My aunt lost her elderly puss recently, but she has now acquired two adorable kittens that are taring around her place like madalecs. She loves it!!!!!
How about Hippolyte, (Queen of the Amazons) or Iphegenia, (Strong or Stout Hearted) with the start she's had she might need a bit of strength in life

I love Percy! It could be Persephone, or Persepolis (one of my fave movies about Lebanon). Percy is a great name for a cat.

Not that I'm trying to influence you.

But it's a great name....;O)
kleiber - we've also got a rogue tom with his balls still intact who roams the neighbourhood and attacks cats willy nilly. i've come across several neighbours living up to 3/4 streets away who have taken theirs to the vets as a result with some really nasty injuries. i'm a cat lover myself, but i think if i got hold of this one i'd do something i shouldn't - at times i've found myself wishing for my old air rifle (don't worry people - its at my parents in the countryside and i wouldn't retrieve it as i know i'd use it). but how on earth are we able to get any respite from this creature or get it removed? ideas on a postcard please...

i wish you and your kitties the best of luck!
Oh, and of course, al the best to poor wee Cass!
My Jess is a house cat (my choice), and I've found one VERY BIG tom cat on my doorstep a couple of times. Very friendly, but balls STILL there! I've no doubt he'd chase my poor wee jess all the way accross town, spayed and all!
For the name, in the classical mode, how about Penelope(penny) or Minerva (MInnie)
I can't see Helen, Venus , Cassandra (shortened too like Cassiopi) or Aphrodite. I cant see you on the doorstep calling Aphro!!!!
Easiest way to get rid of a tom cat is either

1, Put some gloves on covered with petrol or diesel and grab its balls

2, Grab its neck and tail and pull like you would a xmas cracker

That`s the advice given to me by a neighbour, luckily I`ve got a dog and never had this trouble
We have an evil cat that visits and scares all the others. I've bought a water pistol and intend filling it with citrus smelling water. I know cats hate the smell of citrus, so I'm hoping it's going to work. I was livid to find out recently that the offending cat belongs to a local vet. He's arrogant and vain. Don't they say that animals take after their owners?
Poor you and poor Cassie. Did the evil thug give Monty the FIP? Maybe the deballing of this thug will do some good. Does it actually belong to anybody?

But at least you found out about the new baby, and maybe one of the girls will mother it a bit. It will be an all girl household though - apart from K.jnr.

Best wishes and good luck for the week ahead.

What about setting a trap , just get in touch with any cat rescue and tell them it's a stray then they'll get it de-balled and find it a good home, the present owners obviously don't care about it. Hope your little one settles in okay. What about Lucy for a name, I think it's a very pretty name.
And when they set the trap, put pilchards in a tomato sauce as the trapping baite apparently ferral and semi ferrals love them!
Kleiber you have a very honest heart, i hope cassie gets better soon, has the vet taken a test to see whether she is infected?
Aw bless a tripod! what about Bastet after the Egyptian cat goddess you could call her bes for short?
oh kleiber hun, i do hope cassie gets better soon, nasty thug cat, sam the outside cat at my mums is a tom but is a total softy but he does get in the odd fight and the other night id just gone to bed when i heard the dulcet tones of two warring cats and i went hairing back downstairs and out into the porch to see sam face to face with a huge tabby cat that ive not see before, it made sam look quite small and boy was it picking on him, the fur was flying. well i wasnt having sam being hurt so i raced out after this other cat in the pouring rain shouting at it not to hurt my friend and chased it down the garden. sam disapeared into the bushes and reappeared the next day thank godness minus any nasty wounds......
montys making sure you're ok, i like to believe that monty sent that kitten to you, it was ment to be.
Hi Kleiber

Call her Freya, my daughter has that name and she is a beauty.

Freya, as I am sure you probably know is the Nordic goddess of beauty...

Serandipity is also a lovely name!!

I think you are doing a lovely thing, taking in the injured kitten. I would love another cat ..but my husband wont allow!!! :-(
Dear Kleiber - So sorry to hear about wee Cassie - what an upset for your lovely cat and you. I hope she is on the mend now - sending lots of hugs and kisses from me and pup (and pup's promising to be on his best behaviour!).

What a nasty bully boy that other cat is!!!! :o(

Good luck with the wee kitten - she will be much loved - there is no doubt about that - you are an absolute saint :o)xxxxxx
