Its Paddington Bears 50 birthday today. Me and OH were discussing about birthdays when we were younger and I just happened to mention to him that none of us or close friends ever had birthday parties. He couldnt believe it. He was an only child so it was made a bif thing of. Ive asked the rest of my family and they agree that none of did have a party or even a card. Just a small gift from parents.

How about the rest of you ?

I always went to lots of parties but always moaned at my mother for not holding them for me. I know she didn't because of the date.

Prudie, April 1st ?.
Well I don't want to look like I'm after a birthday thread when the time comes but let's say it's a party night. Seroiusly I felt quite miffed as a child.

I once went to a friends who had just started our school at 13 and she asked me over to her house to join a few of her friends from her old school. I remember we had some sort of sandwich and celery sticks !! No cake or anything like that. I was really disappointed
I'm in my 50s & remember having one party (when I was 11)...we didn't have any fuss or big presents the way they do today.
Well it's not April 1st! Back to topic the highlight for us all was always selfishly the 'going home bag' at any children's party I did go to.
My first B/day party was when I was 21 and I was allowed to have my b/f Jacky in for jam sandwiches and a slice of sponge cake.
Mind you I am a twin and my bro and mate were there too.
(They went home at 7o/c)

jem.
I had them when I was a child but usually not on my actual birthday as it's boxing day.
at 21 years old Jem?????

I had a birthday party every year up to about 12 I think.
so that's how you became a cake addict B00? :o)
lol, yeah probably Robinia!

I think it obviously depends on how old you are now as birthdays were more of a trend from about 1980s I think. My son certainly had a party every year until he was about 12. And then parties when he left school and went to uni. some of his friends had their birthday parties at our house too as they wernt allowed to have one at home. My son is now 32. And children today seem to be going to someones party every week !!!
I think I only got birthday parties before I hit double digits, after that they were no more.... I even once got a McDonalds party and got to go in to their fridge. Exciting times.
Every year until i was 18, then i held my own. Now i hide away
Hope you took the candles out first Boo.
Prudie - I'm an April 1st baby, so whenever your b'day is, I sympathise.

I seem to remember having a party every year until I was about 11. I went to quite a lot as well, so I always assumed all children had them.
