trying to think of something to write about so I will tell you about Cody,he is a three legged lurcher which we got from a rescue centre 2 years ago,he was left tied up outside a vet with a dislocated (r) leg which they could not save.he was only 5 months old.He has been with us ever since,he is such a loving, gentle dog,you could prod him, take his food off him etc. and he wouldn't even growl.he is great company for me if I am on my own when son is working,he will just come over to me and plop his head on my knee so I can clap him.he was away getting his booster jags yesterday,so that's him for another year.sometimes you wouldn't see him for hours as he sleeps most of the time, three legs in the air,he is jet black and everyone comments on his lovely shiny fur

Sir Alec, our dog was a Border Terrier crossed with a Patterdale Terrier, like your dog's face but with more black hair!
My sister's dog is a cross between a Lakeland terrier and a Jack Russell, (how did that happen?). She looks like a Patterdale, pure white and has a strange affection for sheep, who are drawn to her and lick her face! I sometimes wonder if they think she's a lamb. Facially she does resemble one, but you'd think that the sheep would be able to smell 'wolf' on her. My sister and I took her to a local show, and people were taking film on their phones of the sheep in their pens, approaching the dog and licking her face. It's very strange to watch!
He's a lucky wee dog to have found you, Kate. My wee terrier doesn't want much, 4 or 5 walks a day, a bit of grub, and a bed on the sofa.
How nice to 'talk' to you Sir Alec.
Our dog isn't a rescue dog as such, the neighbour who asked us to take her obtained her from a dog rescue centre, but the dog was too energetic for her household.
We've had Lucy now for about 8 years, so she's about 10 or 11.
Completely nuts and also a lurcher.

I've met Cody, he's gorgeous, loving and utterly lovable.
Thank you corylus, nice to 'talk' to you too! I'm a bit of a 'dog bore'. I'm only getting used to being on here more often, since I'm not looking after Dad any more. Everything is a bit weird without him, as my world revolved around him for 6 years.
Nice to hear of someone who homed an injured dog, I'm not sure I could have, if I'm honest. Sounds like you've got a great lad there. :)
How lovely. One of mine is a "Cody" too:-)
Hey, well done you, kate, taking on an injured dog he's a very lucky boy.
how's your son getting on in his new job ?.
It doesn't matter what make or shape they are you can't beat agood dog,the only trouble is they break your heart when they go.
I would love to have a cat or dog to care for now that my old gentleman Sam the Tomcat has died. For all the broken hearts they leave you with when they die, and you vow you'll never have another...there is always one that deserves to have some love and comfort. This is a nice post slinky

I loved reading all your replys, you are all so kind hearted, although cody only has three legs he can fair run,he loves running with other dogs, son takes him up the park everyday for a good run which he loves and he then sleeps the rest of the day(lazy sod),at the moment he is lying on the couch munching on a bome bigger than him which he got at the vets.
tony I think he starts on Monday but has to get a medical first.
I used to have a little Norfolk Terrier Sir Alec .I think he was a cross though .
He was my Mums dog and when she went into sheltered accomodation they didn't allow pets so I took him and he lived to the ripe old age of 17 and outlived my Mum!
Here he is ...

Oh bless what a lovely little dog looks a bit like a Yorkshire Terrier.
Yes I think he was a cross ...he had a bit of Norfolk terrier , bit of Yorkie in him .He was a lovely little chap .
I too have a lurcher. Sally is a whippet cross...no idea what the other half is! Everyone assumes she's a small greyhound. She was found in a shed, and the rescue thought she'd been used as a lure in coursing. Every rib showed, even her hip bones stuck out.
She's the sweetest natured dog...I can't imagine life before her.
Thanks for that, shaney! He certainly does look like a Yorkie cross, doesn't he? I wish Hamish had lived to 17. He became depressed after the age of 12 when he started with cataracts and eventually went blind. Walking him was a huge effort, guiding him. He then got thyroid trouble and put weight on. Then one of his back legs wouldn't work, so I couldn't walk him at all. On his last day, he was screaming in pain, which turned out to be a slipped disc, poor wee soul. I knew that the vet was going to recommend him being put down, but it was still a shock when he said it. I was with him as he passed, stroking his face. I had him cremated as I couldn't face burying him, as one day I may have to leave this property and I can't bear the idea of leaving him behind. He has his own little box in pride of place on the sideboard.
What a lovely story. You're an Angel for taking in a rescue animal and with his disability, what an amazing person you are. I love dogs, have 3 of the wee cuties and they make a house a home. Thanks for posting this :)
Aw .. it's sad when they go . Shaney was fit and well until a few days before he went .Very sudden .Liver tumour .One minute he was there and then gone . I remember bringing his ashes back from the vet with tears streaming down my face .
I scattered Mickeys ( the terrier ) ashes in the garden ,never thinking that we we would move away from where we lived at the time .
Pets always leave a pawprint on your heart .
Lovely to read all the stories of your dogs, I grew up in a "doggy" household but have cats now, I should love to have another dog, maybe a sheep dog to help round up the cats, but until I can recover some of my mobility and persuade my OH, I shall just have to "have" a dog by reading about those owned by fellow ABers. Like many of you I have never met a lurcher who wasn't a total sweetheart!
