Please do not withhold his water at any time. It would have no effect on when/whether he wees.

As he does it during the day as well then it is a learned behaviour. You must thoroughly clean the bed or replace it, and take him out at regular intervals and praise him like mad when he goes outside. Stay out with him until he goes (basically go back to puppy training methods).

There are some sprays you can get which put a dog off going in certain places but not sure how effective they are.

thanks lankeela, ive just bought him a new bed and hes done it in there as well the little sod! he may go weeks without doing it and then he'll do it again.ill try and look for a spray then,oh and ill keep the water down then also.he drinks a hell of a lot in one go then nothing for hours thats why i thought to take it up so he wouldnt go to bed on a full bladder.little dogs are the worst i swear!cheers xx

This is attention seeking (imo). Is he bored? Do you have small children he might be jealous of?
Have you been to the Vet to make sure that he doesn't have a urine infection or a medical condition? This is something that I wouldn't try to cure without having had a thorough health check up.Could be that something has gone wrong healrth wise since he reached maturity considering his age.
please go to http://orangedog.forumup.com/index.php?mforum= orangedog and look at "behaviors" and potty training. Also check for medically, get a urinalysis done just in case. If he goes to bed with a full baldder you are correct, he will have to pee and then go again in 1/2 hour then again probably in an hour, if I told you to drink 24 oz. of water in a hour, you would have to go probably in about 1/2 hr maybe less, then you will probably need to go again a short time after that and maybe about an hour after that to get rid of it. If you spray a deternet on the bed to keep him from going there he "might" not lay in his bed at all. It is okay to take up the water at night before you go to bed and take him out to potty right before bed time, if you leave water down for him then you'll have to get up at intervals in the night and take him out. WHAT GOES IN MUST COME OUT. If he has not gone 2 months straight with no accidents he is not Potty trained. I am not sure where you got him from, if from a petstore or backyard/puppymill breeder, dogs live in bad conditions, where mother never taught them to move away from living/sleep area, or they don't get a chance too, (kept in cage or small area) they learn to live in their filth, the "instinct"to move away from the living area is destroyed, so it's harder on us to get them trained to not soil their area. If he has something medical you may have to leave water down at night and get up, till he learns you don't want him going in your home (or crate, a house is just our big crate). Check out the web address I gave you please. And yes...treat then praise him right after he goes where you want him too.
