Good. And long may it continue. I hate wasps. They totally ruin summer when they are flying about your personal space. Kill them all - we don't need them on Earth. Other insects can do their job without annoying you and stinging you.

i tried to buy a wasp in a pet shop last year

the assistant tried to tell me that they did not sell them, but i was not convinced because i saw two in their window
Thanks for that Tony, I have a phobia about wasps

Exactly, Fanriffic. Didn't think that they would be missed to much !.

So does my wife, Pysbbo.
We have just "sprayed" a wasps nest in a small conifer in the garden - dead wasps everywhere now!
Question Author
Ohhhhh, even less now then, Roslyn.
Well done Roslyn - keep up the good work. Evil little things.
Just be careful because when you kill a wasp it gives off a pheromone to other wasps to attack too protect their nest. So just keep your distance until they are all dead.
Why is there not a "KILL ALL WASPS WEEK". There should be - lets eradicate them.
They seem to have been replaced by flies. I thought I'd eat my dinner in the garden earlier - the flies thought they'd eat it too, I soon came indoors.
Don't wasp me. I have no idea
The year before last, I noticed plenty around, I think they were the larger German variety, which was very aggressive and I had to have a large nest destroyed in the attick.
Last year they where conspicuous by their absence and up to now I hadn't seen many this year either.
But I did stumble across a nest this morning while watering the garden, these where much smaller and seemed to be coming from a hole in the ground, when they started to get agitated I decided to make myself scarce.
I think, when the storm hits a lot of the colonies will drown and the numbers will drop once again.
I can't remember seeing many wasps for years. As a child 1960s/70s we used to have dozens of them every year , we used to put jam and water in a jam jar with a paper top with a slit in it as a wasp trap. They can get in but not out again , we caught loads of them every year now you hardly see one.
we'll blame you then eddie
Same here Eddie, the jam and water went cloudy/mouldy and had to be binned, I've yet to see one of the wee beasties.
I had noticed i hadn't seen any. Don't miss them though!
Yes it was quite usual to get 10 or more wasps in one jar , we used to swirl the jam / water mixture around so they fell in then once you had a few flush them down the loo . I must have killed 100s .
We had a wasp nest in our porch about 5 years ago. Called Rentokil and they came and were kitted out like spacemen. Sprayed something in to the nest from a tank on their back.
I know where your wasps went, Tony. They're in my garden.
and Mine...I have a massive nest in the back garden and the hedge at the front has a nest in it :o(
Often the ones that nest in the lawn are bees, some species are know as lawn bees, but agree regarding wasps, hateful things, I am allergic to both bees and wasps but think that bees are fascinating, and do good work.
