Roman numerals date on tv programmes

Can anyone tell me why roman numerals are used for the copyright year at the end of Television programmes and not just '2002' for example ?

I was going to check the TV magazine at the end of the week but my dad's thrown it out :/ The first film title I need was on last week and was set in Wales, and an old post office worker adopted a boy...

I watched a film about two years ago on C5 and it was about some people who went to a mansion and it turned into a murder mystery. firstly some of the people who went up to the front door has statues...

I watched a film ages ago on TV.. and i cant remember what it was called. Well these people find a small dog.. and they go to monticarlo or some place and they take it with them and there's a reward...
