repairing motherboard?

If you motherboard has gone can u repair it and wot are the signs of knowing if it has gone?could it be battery inside the machine?

lap top trouble

lap top wont boot windows?stay on HP screen,i press f2 and system info comes up and at bottom of the screen says entering set up but dosent,the boot from cd dosent show.please help cause it driving me...
