Dark DVDs

I tried watching a couple of DVDs on my computer, and they are both too dark. How can I adust the 'lighting'? There are no obvious (to me) ways of doing this on screen.

Potentiometers for guitars

Why would the ohm reading be lower after soldering a potentiometer for guitars. E.g: before soldering 522K and after soldering 505K. Has the pot been fried or is this normal?
