Problems Connecting To a Brand New Ipod 80GB Classic

Hi, I have a brand new 80GB Ipod Classic that will not connect properly to my Sony Vaio VGN- A617S laptop. I am using a 4port independently powered USB2 hub for the connection into the laptop itself....
