Renault megane coupe, engine not turning over

This morning i tried to start my 98 coupe and nothing happened, just rapid clicking. It has been recovered and towed away, wouldn't even jump start. The recovery guy was stumped, said the engine...

renault megane engine cut-out

1966 megane 1.6 auto has intermittant fault with engine becoming "lumpy" then cutting out when the car stops. Re-starts after a few minutes then it might cut out again or run OK....
