Gibberish downloads

On Firefox when I open a download I've saved to disk all I get are computer symbols -- the thing I want just won't open so I can use it. Any help appreciated --thanks.

Windows ME 256 color mode

When I try to install a new PC game I get this won't run message -- needs 256 color mode. I've looked at the color settings but only 16 color shows up. What do I do to find color 256 mode?

Preventing that drip

We had our garage roof replaced with what looks kike some aluminised material. Every morning drops of water are drip, dripping onto the floor. Can I treat the roof with 'something' to prevent this...
