alfa 156 2.5 v6 gear linkage problem?? help??

i have a 2001 alfa 156, v6, manual 6sp box, normally when you take a car out of 5th gear, the lever would spring to the left and directly slot into 3rd, however mine just comes out of 5th and springs...
