Balloon blowing

After watching a professional entertainer we bought for Christmas a balloon modelling kit. The entertainer easily blew up the long balloons but when we tried not one of us could manage without running the risk of bursting a blood vessel. I appreciate that a pump would be the easiest method but as I have seen them blown up manually I would like to know what the trick / technique is to impress the kids and adults alike.

really stretch all the balloons first of all and also pre-blow them up and then let the air out. then when you come to actually do the stuff properly the balloons will inflate quickly and "professionally".
in addition to bobbobly's answer........try putting them in some warm water too it'll help soften the rubber.....
We had a great laugh at our Christmas party with those long balloons that fly all over making a farting noise when you let them go. However, they were almost impossible to blow up before we realised that you placed a small tube into them before inflating.
