Well, it was previously called the Tory Party, but it was officially renamed after the Reform Bill of 1832. A Tory MP, John Wilson Croker, termed the phrase when he said in 1830: 'We now are, as we have always been, decidedly and conscientiously attached to what is called the Tory, and which might with more propriety, be called the Conservative Party'.
