Is it wrong to keep changing jobs?!

I just started a new job (last Wednesday) which is rapidly turning out to be nothing like the way it was described in the interview... I mentioned and embellished on my IT skills, MS Office experience, creating databases, graphic design and related software and briefly that I worked in a call centre (yuck!)... Now I've started, after thinking my IT skills got me the job, it turns out they're wanting to run a "mini call-centre" and all I'll be doing is taking calls and referring them to an engineer. Great... not!
So now I'm on the hunt again! I'm not a quitter, and they have told me pretty much bluntly that that's all my job will involve, so no prospects there then!
Argh! What do I do? I am studying so when I get these qualifications hopefully I'll be in a position to get the job I want, but in the meantime I still need a salary!!

Well, perhaps you embellished your IT and other skills just a little too much and they saw through you, and gave you a job which they thought more truly reflected your real skills !
So, either you make the most of the job while you concentrate on getting your qualifications,on the basis that you need a salary to live on, or you try and move on and be prepared to admit in future interviews that the job was a mismatch and wouldn't allow you learn any new skills at all, even while you were studying to qualify. But I think you need to have a stop-loss position here, and decide how many jobs you are prepared to quit before you qualify, if they don't turn out to be dream positions.

You come across as having a bit of a narcisistic, superiority complex Matt and that perhaps notihng short of 'The big desk' will be good enough for you.

Remember, they may not appear to have been straight with you but you, in turn, were far from straight with them.
Im inclined to agree with Wendy on some points. You can either keep job-hopping or, turn a negative into a positive and excel at what you are presently doing. Be succesful and give them a reason to value you.

Well because of their use of IT that is why I was hired, and there is no doubt that I appreciate that. I also appreciate that everyone does not do things in the same way I do, so my computer orientated approach may be completely different to their paper-based approach.
And I certainly don't class myself as a blagger. I know what I can and can't do and certainly wouldn't be happy in a position that I talked myself into and couldn't fulfil.
As for the job itself, I will be giving it my all as with any other job that I have been given!

i am 25 and am now a successful personal trainer, been doing it for about 2 years now and enjoying it-its the longest employment ive stayed in!!! .
anyway before this i have done loads of jobs,and i mean loads balliff, debt collector, bouncer, sales jobs, call centres, building sites, to name a few!!!!
it all comes down to what u are hapy doing- dont be too snobby or picky, you dont say how old u are but i wouldnt worry about it, if you have to keep changing jobs just give one of your mates as a reference pretending hes an ex employer.set up a fake e mail address, pick any high profile company thats gone bust-e.g mg rover in birmingham, then say youve worked there for 5 years in any position you want!!
just get a friend who talks posh and doesnt mind doing it-
that way your free to hop jobs as much as u like.
