Marlon Brando and George C Scott refusing Oscars.....why? Brando was something to do with Native Americans - he sent a squaw to the ceremony, didn't he? - but does anybody know the reasons for these two turning their Oscars down? Apologies for my dismissive tone re-Native Americans, and "sent" is probably the wrong word too.

George C Scott won Best Actor Oscar in 1970 for his role as General George Patton in the film Patton. He said he would refuse it if he won it on the grounds it was a "two-hour meat parade". He was at home in New York watching TV when Goldie Hawn announced he had won. brando sent Sacheen Littlefeather to the ceremony in 1973 when he won Best Actor for The Godfather. She was sent to voice his protest over the treatment of Native Americans in their own country.
