Just want to know how good broadband is and whether anyone has had any bad experiences with it? Is it better than dial up internet? How do you go about getting it?

Broadband is far superior to dial up because:

1. It's much faster

2. It could be cheaper than dial - up

3. No nasty screeching moden dial - up noise.

4. No possibility of rogue diallers dialling premium numbers.

5. It's faster!

6. You can use your phone at the same time as surf the net.

7. It's faster.

How you get it depends where you live. If you live in an NTL or Telewest enabled area you can connect with them. I have telewest blueyonder and pay 14.99 a month.

If you have a BT phone line, you have a huge choice of suppliers.

You normally contract for 12 months, and installation is free - but check, because every company has different terms and conditions.

Once you have used broadband you will NEVER want to go back to dial up.

No more waiting for the web page to appear a bit at a time, it is just there, almost instantly.

One of the great things about broadband, apart from what Ethel said above, is that it is always on, in other words you do not need to dial up and wait to be connected.

You just open your browser and there it is.

Maybe the only disadvantage is that becuase your PC is always on, you are more at risk from viruses and hackers.

Make sure you install a firewall, and anti-virus software.

Hi...Broadband is fantastic. I'd def go with a cable provider if you can. NTL does a good 3 for 30 (cable TV, phone line plus 1.2 meg Broadband all for 30) If your not in a cable area then there are plenty of other people to go with but try and avoid going with AOL...my GF's with them and they're a real pain (site not loading properly, problems with e-mail etc)

With dial up we used to wait until 6pm and then start - and were always aware of the length of time we were on. (And our ISP was listed as our favourite friend etc with BT - blow the family!!)

Now - fantastic - should have done it years ago. Probably costing us more BUT only because we were so paranoid about time before.

Phone with BT as I said.

Just phoned NTL up and they came and installed our broadband. (Only broadband by the way)
