Is there a law on how old you have to be to be covered by insurance to drive other peoples cars (if you insurance company covers it of course)

Legally, you just have to be old enough to drive the particular type of vehicle. However, the insurance company may have their own lower limits, although this usually just affects the premium. It is quite common for drivers under 25 to be charged a higher premium.
