My mother-in-law will be eighty in a couple of months. Her eyesight is failing and though not bed -ridden, is not in the best of health. Foreign travel is out of the question. Has anyone out there got any ideas for a Birthday present?

For my MIL's 80th we gave her twelve envelopes to be opened one every month. Each one contained something different, a bouquet delivery, a book token, a voucher for a video, a promise that someone would arrive to take her out for the day etc. She thought it was a great idea and looked forward to opening the envelopes!

How about a big, strong magnifying glass? I think you can get a magnifier that covers the whole page of a book.

Is she fit enough to be taken to the theatre?

How about Tea at the Dorchester it's fabulous not too expensive about 15.00 a head and if you phone ahead and ask for concierge they will meet you outside and help with ma in law. My mother was in wheelchair and they let us pull the taxi round the back entrance through a little corridor and hey presto we were in!!!
