I might be wrong, but I think it's unsupported html code

Thanks ugly_bob, means ****** all to me though.lol, I shouldn't really ask technical questions if i don't understand the answers!!!!

funkeymoped it just bugs me when i can't read the questions or answers. does it look like that before they submit?. i think not. That took me all afternoon to think up that question! lol ;-) told you i was bored

It could be that the the text symbols used on the phone that sent the message to yours are not compatible with your phone. I have had this happen a few times and it always happens when my friends have sent me symbol (sort of like a smiley that you use in chat rooms).

sorry primular, i meant when people type in answers and questions on AB. Theres one not far under this thread.
Well I would like to know too ....... as pointed out there are a couple in threads just under here .....

to elaborate a bit on my earlier answer, you use html code to make things bold and italicised and differetn colour etc when creating a web page. Some internet forums support this, and some don't. The ones that don't show the code used rather than the effect.

so <b> TEXT </b> should have 'TEXT' in bold

This usually happens because they install a program called Hotbar (or something like it). The program is supposed to glam up your emails with backrounds and smileys etc. It tries to do this to AB posts as well, but the AB system does not support it, so it ends up posting all the code that would usually transform into a picture of a fish or whatever floats their boat.

This can be fixed by uninstalling Hotbar, which is a good idea since it's actually spyware.
