A neutered cat in season?

Hi

I have two female cats, one was neutered middle Feb and the other cat I got from the Cat Protection League who was neutered on 16th January.

The one from the Cat Protection seems to be showing signs of being in season. She meows constantly all day and when she is outside another cat tried to mate her, she did not seem to mind and seems to be encouraging it. Is this natural? She actually looks for the other cat when it runs away and when the cat does come into the garden she lies down in front of it.A friend of mine says it looks like she is in season which is unusual if she has been neutered and to keep her locked inside for about two weeks.

I thought if a cat has been neutered she does not give out signals to a tomcat which how cat seems to be doing.

Can anyone help?

i have no idea why she is doing that. did you take her to be neutered or were you just told she had been?

i'm just asking because a while ago we had a female dog that we were told had been done before we got her that got pregnent and had puppies.

The behaviour you have described is that of a fertile queen Hopefully she has been neutered if her fur had time to grow back there is no way to be sure.
sometimes the hormones can hang around for a while so the cat will act as though she's in season but it's really just the tail end of her friskiness. I'm sure it'll settle down fairly soon and a vet could probably tell you very easily if she has actually been fixed or not.

hi

We have had the cat since 24th Feb from the Cats Protection and she has been done, you could see the scar where she has been shaved.

I have contacted the cats protection and they say it is very unusual for her to be in season and for the tom cat to be interested in her, so they are going to pick her up tomorrow and take her to their vets and she will have a blood test done to check her homone levels.

Hopefully the vet will be able to tell us what is wrong,

Our cat is doing exactly the same - she is a neutered year old female and is behaving as if in season. I spoke to the vets and they explained that unfortunately this can happen - and there's not an awful lot you can do about it except let boy and girl cats do what they want to! Hopefully each 'season' will only last a few days. I suggest you let them get jiggy with eachother otherwise the boy will cry and spray everywhere, which is not pleasant.
