Is An 80 Beats Per Minute Heartbeat In The Danger Zone?

I use legal high stimulants and earlier my heart was beating at 80 beats per minute. I was very scared as it seemed too fast and what was worse is it was beating extremely hard, harder than I've ever know it to.

So is 80 beats dangerous? If not why was my heart beating with such ferocity? Also what are the best off the shelf vasodilators to take to take as a precaution? I used Theanine, fish oils, gingko and chewed a bulb of garlic in fear as I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

I heard cayenne pepper is one of the best vasodilators around. Do you know anything about how effective it is?

Nothing, ladyalex, unless it's a swimming pool.
Yes PP, squash a lot, walk a lot & work in the physical side of the building trade.
How low is too low? Sorry to hijack Goof.
Careful rsvp, I've been suspended for saying that.
You might be right, rsvp. Having re-read the question I think somebody's just fishing for condiments.
That's what I thought, Douglas ;-)
About the water, Douglas but liked the condiments too!

The problem with the whole label "legal highs" is that people confuse the concept of "legal" with "safe".

In this case, they are legal only because the law hasn't caught up with modern times and slapped a ban on each substance as it emerges. This is because of the sheer multiplicity of them. Existing substance laws have to mention them by name.

There are no government laboratories conducting tests and declaring these novel substances "safe" for use. I fear that it is just at the level of colloquial knowledge (aka hearsay evidence) that "I tried it and I was okay". Of course, in the real world, people vary in their body responses and a tiny minority react badly to aspirin.

Converseley, these substances can't be banned out of hand and official testing (on whom?) would have to demonstrate ill effects so as to support such moves at parliamentary level (at least, I imagine so).

Athletic heart rates go into the 100+ zone, so 80 isn't that high but, if that is the 'resting' rate and your normal is around 72, then it is slightly elevated.
Heavy beats does seem to suggest it is working against increased resistance. Blood doesn't thicken suddenly (takes smoking to make changes like that) which leads me to think vasoconstriction is the cause.

Reducing oxygen levels in the brain produces euphoria and it worries me that this is what this substance is achieving. I'm only speculating though. If the active ingredient is named on the packet, you can look it up on wikipedia.

Cayenne pepper? Best used in Chilli Con Carne!
Drinking excessive water is very dangerous, it is the main reason people who have taken Ecstasy wind up in hospital, the drug itself is obviously dangerous but the fact it causes extreme thirst and sweating means the user drinks too much water and winds up with hyponatremia.

Some people are idiots. No this isn't a windup,I'm sitting here in panic wondering whether I should call 999 and trying to relax with my hand on my heart timing it every few minutes to see if it gets worse. Thank the rest of you for your helpful answers. Whilst keeping an eye here I've also been googling in panic so had a stick of celery and am having a glass of wine which I've read should help.

Down to 72 bmp now and then 78bpm after I walked to the kitchen and back and it's not beating so hard, thank god for that. Hopefully it goes back to how it normally is.

I will never touch those substances again as long as I live I promise you that.

Peter Pendant 135-145? That sounds terrifying was it just fast or beating really hard as weel and what caused it?

To those enquiring about cayenne

I actually had some, walked to the kitchen cupboard and there was none in the tub.

Honestly, thanks for your help especially those that told me that 80 was okay as if you'd all said I was in the danger zone I'd probably be in the ambulance. Honestly god bless you all who helped.

I took 500mg of grapeseed extract,1 gram of vitamin c. The drug couldn't have wore off as it stays in the body for 2-4 hours so one of the substances I took counteracted it. Straight after the wine I started feeling for relaxed but that's wine for you so it could have been one of the other supplements or food that got digested at the same time as I drank the wine.

No more drugs for me,I'm in my 40's and drank heavily all my life so shouldn't be playing with my health like this.

Once again thanks and to those I called idiots,I'm sorry but I was angry and scared at the time.

Another thing is I haven't eaten since yesterday morning which was two slices of brown toast which may have had something to do with it and now I'm really hungry. Would having a big meal now put my heart under uneccessary stress? Would it be okay to have it or should I have a snack instead? I'll be going to bed within the next hour or two.
Light snack and try to relax - anxiety can contribute to a lot of what you are describing.

Thanks Mamyalynne and Daffy6543. I had a feeling that I was being more aware plus paranoia but wanted to make sure that my heart wasn't about to give up. The most scariest experience I've had so far and never to be repeated.

Once again thanks everyone. I'm off to eat and then a good rest. May god give you all what you want in life. Goodnight and godbless.

Hope you are feeling better today. I had resting heart rates of up to around 134 bpm and got a bit worried, horrible feeling, turned out to be taking Day Nurse capsules as I had a cold. Dr said it was due to something they put in it, I imagine the stuff that makes you feel like can keep going.

If it has put you off the legal highs though then I'm glad.
