how to remove shampoo or lotion stains from bath mat

my cousin from usa v carelessly spilt some shampoo or lotion on some cotton bath mats which are goldish colour darker than beige. the bath mat is now left with some nasty white marks. can anyone please suggest how i can get rid of these marks on the bath mat.many thanks baljit
