Has anyone joined this - either premium or standard service? I presume when the paper prints that someone has won by email it is via this service (how do they choose I wonder?). I can see the benefits for those overseas - does anyone have any good or bad experiences/pros or cons about joining? Would like to hear from you. Thanks.

We find it very good. We have the premium service and this gives us access to all the Times crosswords.Almost all can be posted online and those, like the Mephisto, where you can't submit online you just print it off and post it in just as if you cut it from the newspaper. This saves you buying the paper and cuts down on envelopes and stamps.

A couple of times the crossword has been a bit late in being posted but this is always rectified. If you e-mail them you get a prompt response with an explanation or an apology.

The Guardian has an online club too but you need to print off and post in. Same with the Scotsman.

We are members of all three would rate them Times, Guardian and then Scotsman in terms of value for money.

We have won the Times Club Special (very difficult, more so than Mephisto and the Scotsman so the system does work. How they choose - pass!

I subscribed to the Times and Telegraph but cancelled my subscription to the Telegraph recently, when they started printing the answers in another part of the paper.

The Times online, however, is to my mind the better deal. I have the Premium service which gives you a minimum 4 crosswords every weekend, with Holiday specials throughout the year. I won the Times 2 Jumbo in 2004 so I know it works. I also emailed the crossword editor about a mistake I had made and was told that multiple entries are accepted; you can also submit your entry up to the closing day (no need to trust Royal Mail), giving you a couple of extra days.On top of this you get the newspaper to read each day. At around 25 a year I think it is the best deal out.
