Most alarm systems have an internal battery, so they'll still work if there's a power cut, or if a burglar cuts the power. Any idea what make and model you'll be installing so we can check .... although there's prob no need, as I'm fairly sure that it will have an internal battery ..... might be better to check though, just in case :)

Type Your Answer Here...only if you have it battery backed so that the battery cuts in when power off otherwise will not work
It might be worth also looking into buying a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). We use one for both our alarm and CCTV system. We've tested ours and it lasted for for about 18 hours before the alarm's battery took over with then lasted another 7 hours.
Whatever you do, please don't get an alarm system that assumes that any power cut is an attempted burglary and goes howling away.

One absentee pillock in our village had one of those and (given the number of short power blips we get) it was forever shattering the peace.

I say 'had' because eventually an irritated neighbour took a sledgehammer to it ... ("allegedly")
Just the one neighbour Dave? I'd of thought that the entire street would of been out with sledge hammers, pitch forks and spades.
i have been known to scale ladders and rip offending box from wall....in Norfolk when neighbour was away for 3 months ! .much to the delight of everyone I may add...
Dave - that irritated neighbour wouldn't happen to you by any chance lol ??
that depends on the alarm system, you want one with a battery back up. this means that if the power goes off, an inbuilt battery would keep the alarm system running for some time.
I wouldn't like trying to swing any sledge hammer whilst perched on a set of ladders. A lump hammer maybe.

Gizmonster: I was thinking the same, I reckon Dave went out in the middle of the night and sabotaged the neighbours bell box.
