Isn't it a bit early for sparrows to be mating/nesting ? ( South Midlands UK )

No - St Valentine's Day is the traditional date for birds to pair up. They're spot on calendar.
all birds are 'at it', have seen pigeons, swans, rooks all courting away ! :)
My local seagulls are going at it like jackhammers.... and the local foxes of course. OMG, what a noise they make.
tits have been in and out of the nest boxes for a couple of weeks now
