Having installed Windows XP and in the process of reconnecting with my ISP an error window appeared at one point in Outlook Express. Despite the fact that the error was sorted out ages ago I cannot get rid of the message, which is blocking my direct access to sending and receiving e-mails. I have to go around the error message in a complicated way. How can I get rid of an error message which now is out-of-date and irrelevant?

Whats the error message that you're getting? I just need the 0x800xxxx number at the end.

And what do you have to do to get rid of the error message?

Daisy 13, the error message is 0x800xCCCOE.

I get it off the screen by clicking on the X at top right. But as soon as I opt for SEND/RECEIVE it comes back.

Many thanks

OK the error code you're getting means that Outlook Express can't connect to your email server. Every time you click send/receive it connects to both your incoming and outgoing email servers and for some reason OE can't establish the connection to one or both of the servers. The message is not out of date or irrelevant if it's happening every time you send/receive. Possible causes for this include - no active internet connection, firewall blocking access, OE trying to use the wrong internet connection or your mail account being corrupt (this happens all the time with OE).

The first thing I'd reccomend that you do is call your ISP and have them talk you through deleting then recreating your email account - I'm guessing this will resolve the problem and if not they should be able to talk you through some further troubleshooting.

Good luck and let me know if you have any further problems.
