Can anyone tell me please what is the best way to convert currency to Egyptian pounds please? I have been given lots of conflicting advice but I usually take some sterling wherever I go and get my currency from ATM machines as Nationwide do not charge for currency conversion. Is this the best option for Egypt as some have said use dollars and others use sterling

I've been to Egypt, (Sharm( 3 times) & in two weeks Luxor), and I always take Egyptian Pounds. There are ATMs but I've never had to use them. You will also need a few English Pound Coins, to use @ the airport, roughly = to 2 pounds Egyptian. Currency is usually commision free. Today the exchange rate is around 9.22 to the pound sterling. Post office and TSB are usually fair rates, but you can pre order @Travelex, and pick up @ airport, but ensure you get the guaranteed buy back!!!

You will get a better exchange rate than 9.22 with your Nationwide ATM card.

Not worth changing UK into $ and then again into E - you'll lose out twice.

You will get a better exchange rate if you exchange sterling in Sharm.

I exchanged a large amount a couple of weeks ago as a deposit for property. Exchange rate here was 8.8, I got 9.96 in Sharm :) There are also several ATMs.

Also, if your not leaving Sharm you will not need to buy a visa at the airport.
