WASP white anglo saxon protestant

We do see the phrase on occasion. Here's a quote from a speech by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1915:
The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic. The men who do not become Americans and nothing else are hyphenated Americans; and there ought to be no room for them in this country.

A more commonly seen term is British-American, although not ubiquitous as are other nationalities. Probably due to the fact that for the first 100 years or so of our history, the colonies were predominantly English/British...

It would always be Anglo instead of English.

Anglo-American, Anglo-Irish, Anglo-African etc.
Rare because there is no reason to claim being English American. Yanks always want to claim to be from another country to make it easier to get a passport for that country from thier links to their amcestors. That way, if a plane they are on is hijacked and the terrorists go around asking for passports so they can shoot the Yanks first, they can produce a Polish/Irish/Czech one. Also, many Americans like to get passports from other countries to make it easier to go to Cuba for cheap sex and cigars. If they get a Cuban immigration stamp in their US passport, they will get a hard time when they go back. Having another passport from another country prevent that. This may be hard to believe but I know a CIA man and her told me about it.
one of my friends would (if pushed) describe herself as Anglo-American. Her mum was English, and her dad American, so she has dual nationality and a US passport. Admittedly, she only lets people know about her being half american when it's of advantage to her, eg at US Customs. Otherwise, she tends to keep it quiet....lol.
Maybe on both sides they're too embarrassed to admit to the other.
My step mom is trini-canadian and my step dad is croatian-canadian.. And my dad is Russian-Canadian.. neat hey! lol
