I'm applying for a job as a marketing executive for a magazine. They've asked me to come up with ideas for a summer cover promotion plus an added value offer on two different magazines. What's the difference? I thought they would both be cover mounts but don't want to look like a fool. Help!

Surely an 'added value offer' is a free gift?

And the cover promotion would just be the front cover design and layout, promoting the actual magazine content.

'added value' is anything that makes the mag appear more valuable to the consumer - so as Ethel said that could be a free gift or a voucher etc anthing your marketing brain can think to latch onto the mag. where as a summer cover promotion is just that - the word promotion is generally used to mean "idea" intended to forward the subject matter e.g. the idea "could" be to stick a free handbag on the mag BUT what they more likely looking for is a marketing idea in its traditional sense e.g. a catchy tag line a sales pitch in a few words, maybe a mice design idea, cover layout etc.

good luck at the interview
