Hope this is the right section.

A very good friend of mine is going off to Australia for a year; to do the whole backpacking/working thing. I would like to get him a gift, sort of a going away present. Ideally it would be something he could use, but I would like it to be something that would remind him of me.

Any ideas??? Thanks

When my friend did the same we got her a little bag to use as well as the backpack for like money and passprt etc. It was from Kipling and she loved it. I'm sure they do more blokey versions too, maybe a bum bag style. You could personalise it by putting badges on it. Or a wallet with a pic from home in it. Another brilliant idea is a little fun pack for the long flight....quizzes you've made, jokes, a letter to pass the time, sweets, a couple of funny photos you've dug out of him, a mag, just anything amusing that you can wrap up and not let them open til they get on the plane then they can just chuck it all away if they need to.
Just had another thought...you could make him a necklace or bracelet, you know the kind of surfy ones made of white beads on black thread, they are well popular in oz. Bead shops sell loads of different types and they are really simple to make.

A journal.

Everyone while they're travelling will get the urge to wax lyrical about their amazing adventures... I know I did!

You can buy journals where you can put a picture of your choice in the cover, or just write something on the first page yourself if you want to personalise it.

Jaf that is discusting!!
