What is the meaning of the saying 'Words Escape Me' ?

It means"I can't think of the appropriate word at this minute" - whereas "Words Fail Me" means you are so appalled at something that you can't think of anything to say.

"words fail me" means that something is so unusual you can't think of words to describe it. I haven't heard "words escape me" but it may have the same meaning.

Or, if you are trying to quote something but cannot remember the exact wording, you may say "The words escape me right now", meaning you've temporarily forgotten them.

Think it is generally the response to stupid, insulting or similar statement or question. I think it means I cannot reply (perhaps without swearing) or "I'm astonished" or "I'd best say nothing". I suppose it is also used when someone asks a question to which the answer will be beyond them or shocks you like a child asking "what does f**k mean"; or someone asking how can there be a square-root of -1.
