Hi there, wonder if any of the genius' can help me with an odd Q I have. I have two tatoos at the top of either arm and occasionly the outline becomes raised. it's quite strange,it only affects the outline, its like i've scratched around the outline but you can't see a mark because of the colour. doesn't always happen when its warm can happen anytime. Any help to a lumpy girl??!!??

the tattoos are areas of scarified tissue. what you are describing is something like a keloid. treatment for this revolves around moisturisation- so try this first. if it is bad for a while go to boots and get some cicacare dressings, which help lots.
is this a new tattoo? It might be that it just needs settling down which can take a while. Having said that my oldest one plays up sometimes and I get a raised outline, but it does go down again
I have many tattoos, and this happens to mine all the time, I do nothing. It seems to happen mostly on the fleshy parts and mostly when I'm warm. I suppose though If you think about it ,tattoos are scars and scars are usually raised, maybe thats the answer.
I have a lot of tattoos for 30 years or more, and like the rest on here get this prob in hot weather, have never worried about it
I've just come up with a theory, you all say this happens when your hot so how about this ... when your hot your blood vessels become closer to the skin to aid cooling (this is why we become a bit pinker when its hot), if this is happening then maybe the scarred tissue is pushed up a bit more as its a bit more fiberous? OR what if because its hot you've all sweated quite a bit so your loosing fluid from your tissue, this might mean your flesh is shrinking a bit giving you the impression that the tattoo its raised because the scar tissue is too ridgid to be affected in that way! it could happen, tho i have just made this up, any thoughts?
