hi i got one of those stupid fines issued by the council today, not for parking illegally or not having a ticket but because my car wasnt completely in the lines (which would have been impossible to get it in because the car in front a big 4x4 was so close if not over the line not giving me enough room to get in. i spoke to the warden who issued it and he said that he cant undo it because its already been done but he said to write to them and challenge it saying the i needed the extra space for disabled access and i should get away with it, but i know they have cameras covering the car park and i think they will check and see its not true. Does anyone know of any good excuses that have worked that mightbe able to save me 60 which i really could do without paying for a silly little thing like this.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

The truth seems as good as anything. If you get no success, try your local paper. It also might be worth contacting the BBC Watchdog programme in case they are running a series on this.

Not a new law at all - it has always been the case that you must park legally and within the designated area - you could and can be fined (even if you have a valid ticket)!

i know its not technically a new law, its just been taken over by the council. and i know the police have better things to do than waste time on a car 3 inches over a line. whats your job ermius traffic warden ?

I love the way people always under exagerate the amount of space they take up...it was only a few inches etc. The lines are there for a reason, if everybody in a line of cars parked just a bit over by the time you got to the end you'd have lost a parking bay.

I've lost count of the number of times I've gone into a car park and couldn't find a space because of poor parking by other users. If you can't fit in the space then find somewhere else to park.

well coobeastie for your information the wheel was a MAXIMUM of 3 inches across the line like i said before and i have photographic proof to prove it, it wasnt causing an obstruction like they said because not even one car seemed to have a problem to pass it. and also i could have parked somewhere else but why the **** should i, i payed me money so why should i not get to park there, sounds like to me you are one of those people who have to park somewhere where there is at least 2spaces either side cos they aint got the skill or brains to get in a normal space that anyone else could. like i said before IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IN, and i do apoligise that i didnt say there was nowhere else to park, i shouls have realised some idiot like you would like to get your point across that you cant drive, well take some more lessons then !!!!!!!!!! And also i wasnt stopping anyone else from parking because the parking was bumper to bumper not side to side.

Thanks very much tho Grunty at least there is someone who uses this site fot the original reason it was intended for and not putting their pathetic point accoss, which the only reason they do is cos they have no real friend to talk to about things that bother them.

My advice to you beastie go get a life and some friends and then take some more driving lessons cos its pretty clear you shouldnt be on the road.

Sorry to everyone else, i'm not in the best of moods as you can probably guess.

Sorry to have upset you wduk but its a pet hate. I can park perfectly fine btw :)

Has the ticket you've been given got any clauses about appealing (like losing the right to pay a discounted amount) if it has then it might pay to pay and appeal at the same time (though some councils won't accept this).

If it hasn't then appeal anyway as you've nothing to loose.

I'd rule out trying to fib your way out as the warden will have made notes and these would be checked.

As a general rule..going to the papers will not have any bearing on your appeal

sorry about my earlier outburst beastie, everything seemed to be going wrong yesterday and was in a bad mood, not too good at taking critism either, feel a bit guilty about what i said. your answer is exactly what i have been thinking maybe i should pay the money quick and then appeal but i might lose out on my chance and they probably dont give refunds, i know someone who works at the coulcil so they are going to ask for me tomorrow. i'll prob just pay and give it a go like you say i've got nothing to lose after i've paid, at least i've learnt a lesson . . . . . . that the council r rip off merchants that will go to any extreme to get our hard earned cash.
