what's the point of cloning a cat when there are far too many of them in the first place, and cat rescue operatons are forever getting people to neuter them?

Maybe they could clone one which doesn't foul your garden.
Good question. It's money of course! People will buy designer cats and clone cherished family pets who have died. It'll be a major industry soon, meaning that unwanted kittens will have even less chance of getting a home.
Well for one, cats suffer Aids as in feline aids and they think there is a 'make-up' link with human Aids. Therefore, if they can make up a group of identical cats then the tests done on them would give a more accurate result. This of course leaves the door wide open to the animal experiment row. I dont think the idea is to produce 1,000's of cats to swamp the worlds cat population. I do believe that the company who sponsored the research were interested in producing cats which the owners wish to 're-born' after their precious moggy had passed away.
