Anyone know of any 'powerful' classical music? You know.. er... hard to explain what i mean. Sort of like music that would go with the Lord of the rings films?

If so can you tell me what the piece is called & where i can buy it?

Almost anything by Wagner... unapologetically apocalyptic... especially his Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelungs) and its accompanying explanatory series including Die Walkre ... very dark, very Teutonic... Should be available at any music outlet... just as for the works of Richard Wagner... (to sound like an aficianado, pronoune the last name with a "V")

Can't go wrong with movie soundtracks. Try "Hannibal", mostly arranged by the great Hans Zimmer.

hey there , chipshopfat! Yeah, Wagners a good choice but 'Symphony No.8 'Unfinished', Allegro moderato' by Schubert is also good. Also try 'Cantique de Jean Racine' by Faure. I'll see what else I can find.

I'd like to add 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff, Mars from 'The Planets' by Gustav Holst, most of 'Pictures at an Exhibition' by Modeste Mussorgsky and the finale to the 'Firebird Suite' by Igor Stravinsky.

If you go here: http://www.soundtrack.net/trailers/ and have a look at the list of trailer music for similar films to LOTR, you will find lots of powerful film soundtrack pieces used in them!
