Further to my previous post. Parcel arrived, but not at my home, it is at the Post Office .... There is a Customs Tax of over £12. When I asked the company how much postage would be to UK I specifically asked them to include any taxes, which they haven't done. I have asked them to refund me €20 thru Paypal so I can collect from PO or refund me the total and cancel the order, and the parcel will be sent back I presume. What would you do? Its only a few eye pencils but they work out too expensive with customs tax as well. Will paypal refund me ?

I had this when I ordered something from China. I believe it's the UK that demands this tax not the seller. If you don't pay up you won't get your package. I got caught out too.

Frank it seems that customs duty is payable over £150. My item cost €50.70 including postage which is approx £32.00. Does this mean customs charges are not due ?
I suspect it may just be the VAT plus Post Office handling charge you're having to pay if the goods are of a low value, probably the handling charge in this case is bumping up the cost.
It's not the sellers fault, it's just the horrors of importing things sadly.
no, paypal will not refund you, it's your responsibility to find out what tax will apply.
how much were they eye pencils worth? is there a customs form?
I don't think tax is only payable over £150. My daughter's family left a baby's soft toy in New York, they agreed to pay the hotel for the shipping etc and when it arrived, clearly a very used item, they still had to pay some hideous amount in Import duty.

Worth to me about £6 each, cant get them in UK.
this happened to me with a pair of shoes from the USA, I was told the sender bumps up the value of the parcel so they are fully insured., so you get charged more when the parcel reaches the UK.
