hello, im writing a boring report and was wondering if abers can help me come up with any alternative words for appraisal, evaluation and assessment? the words need to be relaxed and non-threatening :) any help is much appreciated cheers :p

I've been in the same position, and sometimes you're stuck with certain words in a business context - otherwise it can be confusing. Perhaps the way to 'soften' them is to think about how you prefix or suffix them. For example, an appraisal meeting sounds more welcoming than an appraisal interview; a joint evaluation is better than a management evaluation etc.


Maybe it's just spin, but I think that it sends out a slightly different message. Good luck!

At work, our appraisals are called staff development reviews, but nobody is fooled by the warm 'n' fuzzy words for a moment! So beware of hard-bitten cynics if you do soften the language.
