This made me think about the Death with Dignity issue - she's not being assisted to die, but the withdrawal of treatment, by her choice, will inevitably hasten the process. It's a very thin line, IMO - the people who go to Switzerland want help to die, here is Lynda (as sqad says) making a pragmatic decison about how much more she can cope with. I do think it's courageous to plan to face your own end like that. I don't know what I'd do, in her situation - I guess it's one of those life situations that you can't predict until you find yourself actually in it.
I agree boxy, it is a very brave decision to make, to stop treatment and let the disease take its course. Hopefully she will have some sort of pain relief to the end.
It is a sad fact that although we keep hearing that they are daily getting nearer a cure for cancer,it seems that many people are still succumbing to this terrible disease.Hopefully Marie Curie or Macmillan nurses will be on hand to ease her suffering as this brave lady stops her treatment.
I imagine she's chosen between quality of life and quantity of life. Six months of quality life may be preferable to struggling throughout that time with the debilitating treatment that would keep her alive for a little longer.
Yes, she is taking charge - Chemo and other Cancer treatments are so debilitating and often the patient just wants it all to stop.

Bless her and her family for the time they have left.
did not know she was ill, brave lady i wish her and her family all the best.
I saw Lynda Bellingham in Calendar Girls (she was playing the supportive friend and WI member Chris) She had us in the palm of her hands and was the strongest, funniest and most inspirational actress I have seen in many years.

She was due to return to our theatre again more recently but she cancelled her tour after her diagnosis. I will always remember and admire her leading that wonderful company of actors and having seen her, I can understand her having the strength of character now to make this enormous decision. Huge admiration, brave, beautiful lady.
