I am trying to write my first novel and know I read somewhere what sort of word count that different publishers look for but now, I can't find the site. Does anyone have any ideas?

My wife and daughter are both writers, and swere by the writers and artist yearbook, writers handbook both of which are available in bookshops or on the net, but you may also get information from two retail magazines, writers forum and writing. Their doesnt seem to be a hard and fast rule. One thing I do remember is that there is a free to enter national novel writing month on the net with the aim of producing 50000 words and if you do you get a certificate. Good Luck and keep us posted
I would say the shortest novel length would be @40,000 words (eg Animal Farm sort of length)- an avergae length is about 70-80,000 words- the last Harry Potter was over 100,000 words. Don't get hung up on it though!

Short novels - partic childrens - 40K

Adult 60k+
