Our Norton AntiVirus Subscription has expired and it says that we need to renew, but you can only do that on the internet and we don't have a credit card. We bought a new Norton AntiVirus a couple of days ago and i uninstalled the old one and installed the new one, but it STILL says it needs renewed! I tryed to possibly upgrade using the new product key from the new CD, but the help website is utterly useless. I really don't want to get any viruses because the renewal is required today! HELP!

Any help is greatlyyyyy appreciated!!!!!

Heather, your newly purchased antivirus package shouldn't require you to renew your subscription. You may have had a problem completely installing the old package, so some if it's still lurking and wanting you to subcribe again.

If I were you, I would try to uninstall everything to do with Norton from your system, and then have a look in your Program Files > Symantec or Program Files > Norton Antivirus (or similar) folder, and physically delete anything that's remaining after the uninstall. Then, restart your computer before trying to install the new package you bought.

Hopefully, if you do this, Windows/NAV will see this as a fresh installation and not bother you about subscriptions for 12 months.

If you still have trouble, AVG antivirus from http://free.grisoft.com/ is excellent, and, best of all, it's free. Just make sure you do get rid of NAV before you install it.

I'd go for AVG too. I used to have Norton, and a virus got through. No trouble at all since I used AVG
antivir is another great one I use it free and it auto updates when u connect to the internet. just google antivir as unfortunately I don't remember the web site address

Thanks! I'll try to uninstall everything and start again, but if there's no luck, I might see about the free anti-virus programs.

Norton AntiVirus leaves some data in the windows registry after it is uninstalled. The installation of a new version shoiuld overwrite this data but aparently in your case it has not. (Are you sure you got a later version or did you get another copy of the same version?). A good registry cleaner (I use Fix It) will clean out the data the uninstall leaves behind and when you install Nortons again (even if you re-install your old version) you will get the standard 3 month free subscription. (Note: If you uninstall Norton Antivirus every three months, clean out the registry then re-install Nortons, in theory you will get never-ending free 3 month subsciptions).

Norton is utterly useless, in all aspects. Dont ever try to call the 'Un-Helpfuldesk' nor try a simple un-install.

Try AVG or Avast. they get great reviews on here and everywhere else, ive used avast for 2.5 years and not one bit of bother.

The guy in the computer shop gave me the same 2005 version, but stupidly, I didn't realise that it mattered lol. Thanks everyone!!
